Aquarium of the Bay Celebrates Summer with a Splash

SAN FRANCISCO, CA –School is out, and for anyone looking for a way to spend the day, San Francisco’s Aquarium of the Bay has a few excellent options. In addition to its regular activities such as Behind the Scenes tours and daily visitor programs, Aquarium of the Bay is offering some great new experiences. All summer long, visitors can check out an entertaining magic show, watch films in 3D and see stunning new species of fascinating jellies.

The Bay Theater at Aquarium of the Bay is now featuring the new and improved San Francisco Magic Show starring master magician and Las Vegas showman Timothy Noonan. Starting July 6, this spectacular show will be available for audiences to marvel at three days a week. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, audiences can witness amazing predictions, jaw-dropping routines and even have a chance to participate in the show.

Also premiering at the Bay Theater are two new films in 3D. Powered by RealD 3D, visitors can get off their feet and relax with some popcorn while watching one of the Bay Theater’s new 3D videos. Sharks from the Red Sea to the Pacific Ocean are featured in “The World of Sharks” as they practically swim right off the screen. The fun animated film “TurtleVision” is the exciting story of a sea turtle and its friends as they venture from the warm water of the tropics to the icy Atlantic.

Visitors to the Aquarium this summer will also enjoy getting a look at the newly enhanced jellies exhibit. Already a visitor favorite, the exhibit will now feature three new species of jellies, in addition to the moon jellies, Aurelia aurita, and sea nettles, Chrysaora fuscescens, that currently live there. Entrancing Japanese sea nettles, Chrysaora pacifica, and lagoon jellies, Mastigias sp., will join the exhibit this weekend, and upside-down jellies, Cassiopeia sp., will follow soon after. Throughout the weekend visitors can enjoy special presentations to find out about these mesmerizing creatures. In the Farallon Room kids of all ages can participate in a jelly drawing contest. The contest runs from July 1 through September 3, after which a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner will be chosen to win cash prizes.
