The BayMobile – Bringing the Bay Your Way!

Can’t get your class to the Aquarium? Now the Aquarium can come to you! Using our mobile Bay Lab, students will experiment with the science of climate change and meet some of Aquarium of the Bay’s animal ambassadors. All programs meet the Next Generation Science Standards and are taught by our talented Outreach Educators.

The BayMobile visits all 9 Bay Area Counties in the 2016-2017 school year:

  • Alameda
  • Contra Costa
  • Marin
  • Napa
  • San Francisco
  • San Mateo
  • Santa Clara
  • Solano
  • Sonoma

Program specifications

Duration: 60 minutes per class

Class size: 15 to 35 students

Number of classes per school visit: 2-3 (please note all classes on a given date must select the same program)

Reservation requirements:
  • Drive-up location in playground/parking lot/yard for the duration of programs
  • TWO outlets within 50 ft of the drive-up location
  • One classroom/library/multi-purpose room for all programs – we cannot relocate during the school day
  • Reservations must be made at least 3 weeks prior to requested date(s)




Program Options:

Kindergarten - Grade 1

Our Future’s So Bright: Students will observe how humans have affected the balance of natural cycles on Earth, then explore through play how new innovations give us all the opportunity to return balance to our environment.
Animal Ambassador: California Kingsnake

Grade 2

Water You Gonna Do?: Students will interact with the three phases of water, explore how rising global temperature change water on our planet, and discuss the effects of rising sea level on wild habitats and people.
Animal Ambassador: Tidepool Invertebrates (with touch tank)

Grade 3

And the Darwinner Is…: Students will discover how the greenhouse effect works, explore how animal and plant species adapt to a changing environment, and identify the winners and losers in our rapidly warming planet.

Grades 4-5

It’s Ptough to Be a Pteropod!: Students will measure and observe changing chemistry in an ocean-like environment, explore the complex food web, and discuss potential solutions to slow that change.

Grades 6-8

The Basics of Ocean Acidification: Students will dive into ocean chemistry, discover the building blocks of shelled organisms, observe our impact on aquatic invertebrates, and brainstorm our solutions for a healthier ocean.

Grades 9-12

Ocean Acidification: Have you got Chemistry?: Through experimentation and data collection, students will discover how changing ocean chemistry is affecting habitats, and what we can do to reverse this change.

Grades 9-12

Climate Change 101: How do we know the Earth is warming? Students will learn about the nature of science, climate change basics, how animals are being affected, and what we can all do to make a positive difference.

Please Note:’s Aquarium of the Bay, Sea Lion Center and BayMobile free education programs are available to all K-12 school groups from the 9 Bay Area counties (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma). This does not include after-school or youth group programs affiliated with K-12 schools.
