The tectonic $260 million transformation of the Smithsonian Affiliated Aquarium of the Bay, to the first of its kind Climate and Ocean Conservation Living BayEcotarium, is now underway. The landmark vision was unveiled at the Bently Reserve on October 5, 2018 with the former Second Lady of the United States Dr. Jill Biden delivering the Key-Note address. On July 17, 2019, 230 CEOs and Executives from the Bay Area gathered atop Salesforce Tower to hear former President of Kiribati His Excellency Anote Tong on the climate change induced sea-level rise crises looming ahead for his people on the tiny atoll nation in the Pacific. With cutting edge exponential technologies, inventive and innovative test-beds for sustainability, launch station for Deep Ocean Submersible research, observation decks for the sea lions, ocean conservation initiatives, and exhibit simulations developed with The Bay Institute scientists, this would be a highly visible iconic facility in the Bay Area situated amid a 3 acre public green eco-park dedicated to the mission of conserving, preserving, and saving the Bay. This initiative will transform San Francisco as a destination of climate resilience and a beacon of environmental movement.

“Environment Education is potential set in motion. The vision for BayEcotarium is exceptional and will accelerate a generational movement for our Blue Marble.”

DR. JILL BIDEN
Former Second Lady of the United States.

Drawing from the iridescence of fish scales, ocean geometry, ohlone shell-mounds and rippling waves, the design elements incorporate bio-mimetic facades, an unusual micro-grid using fish waste, native plant palettes, immersive story-telling, free education for all children, machine learning devices, wet-labs, deep ocean exploration learn and launch center, an enhanced aquarium experience with 30,000 animals and portals into the world of exponential technologies, prototypes and possibilities that could change the way carbon could be sequestered, pollution and energy dependencies could be transformed, materiality could be morphed, and equations of sustainability in a growing framework of population increase and scarcity of resources, would be addressed.

“Thank you for making SPACE for our future.”
